Also known as "vegetable ivory", the tagua nut is the seed of a palm that grows in Ecuador. For many years, it has been used by to manufacture buttons and handicrafts. Now, the Fair-trade cooperative of ProPueblo employs local artisans to craft beautiful ornaments and figurines from this renewable material.
